Do you need the hose or to plug in?
I will need to plug into an outlet. I have a 100ft and 50ft cord that should accomodate most circumstances. I have a water tank and a hose in case I run out of water, I can refill. . back
I usually park along the curb, or on flat driveways. back
Yes, I have a water heater for the van, as well as a heat for the winter and airconditioning during the summer. back
How should I prepare my pet for grooming?
Please let them go potty before I arrive. Also, don’t feed them with in an hour or so (because then they will need to go potty). If they take medicine for arthritis pain, you may want to give them some before the grooming. back
I will need to know your pets age, sex, weight, and breed as well as any health issues or behavior concerns. Please let me know if you give your pet tranquilizers or pain medicine before the grooming. Let me know of any of your concerns, be they related to the health of your pet or if they have had bad grooming experiences in the past, anything that may help me understand him/her better. back
What if I need to give my pet something to calm him/her down?
If your veterinarian has recommended that you give them a tranquilizer, allow time for the medicine to really kick in. Ask your veterinarian the time frame of when the tranquilizer will take effect and how long it will last. There are several different types and some take as long as two hours to take effect. If grooming begins before it has taken effect, oftentimes, the medicine will not effect them. I am not sure why, but I have seen it happen many times. back
The grooming process
What exactly do you do when you groom my pet?
I will greet your pet and depending on their comfort level, either you or I will take them to the van.
For doggies: I will clip their nails (if needed), check their ears and clean them (if appropriate), get the hair out from the bottom of their feet (where mats and stickers can hide), clip their potty area, and give them a bath. The bath is tailored to their needs. I use a gentle, clean rinsing shampoo, but I also have medicated shampoo (for different conditions), a remoisturizer, oatmeal rinse, as well as other products to help keep their skin and coat healthy. I dry them with a towel and then use a handheld dryer, and I also have a stationary dryer for fluffing. When they are dry, I trim them (if appropriate), and a final tidy up of the face, feet, and ears. Dogs with double or shedding coats, will be deshedded with the best means for their coat. I have Furminating tools, as well as other types of tools and products to get the hair out. Finally, they will get a deodorizing spray, and bandana or bows. Please let me know if you want either bows or bandanas, or nothing.
For kitties, I can shave them or dematt them, but unless the kitty is very tolerant, or is very dirty (for lack of being able to clean themselves, or other reasons) I prefer not to bath them. I use a damp towel to clean their bottom, if necessary. Bathing a cat is not fun for them, and can be risky for me, as they have more than their fair share of armament. If cats can keep themselves clean, I don’t see the need to put them through a bath. Also, let me know if you want their nails trimmed (not everyone does). I will also tidy up their feet and bottom area, as needed. back
For most pets, it takes up to an hour. Large dogs, very hairy or matted pets will take longer as well as those who take special care due to health problems or behavior. back
How often should I have my pet groomed?
Usually every 4-6 weeks is recommended. Remember that grooming is not just about looking good, but also about their health and comfort. Dogs who hair tangle and matt need to be brushed regularly to prevent hot spots. Shedding dogs can be uncomfortably hot without the coat deshedded, also stickers and fox tails can make their way into the coat and skin with out being noticed. When I groom them I can look at the skin and check thoroughly for such problems. Dogs with allergies often need to be bathed more often to get the allergens off their coat. If you have an outdoor dog, please have them groomed seasonally (four times a year), minimum. Indoor pets can become “stinky” after a few weeks and nails need to be trimmed regulary as well. I have clients who schedule from every two weeks to every eight weeks, and those who call when they think their pet needs grooming. Much of it depends on your personal preference. back
How do I make an appointment online?
Go to the “make an appointment online” link and choose the number of pets you want to have groomed. This selects an hour per pet, plus driving time. If you have a very large, hairy or matted pet, you may want to call me so I can help you determine how much time we will need. Most pets, however, take about an hour. When you select the number of pets, that link will take you to the online scheduler. You will then be asked to select the part of town in which you live (for mobile grooming). Then select from the available days on the calendar (those days will be highlighted). At this point, you make make recurring appointment (the top box) or a one-time appointment (under the recurring appointment box). When you select your time, you will be taken to a page where you either search for your name, or enter your information. Clicking the “Submit your Request” button schedules your appointment. Then you will receive an email saying you requested an appointment. I will then confirm your appointment within a few days, in which case you will receive a confirmation email, and then the day before your appointment, you will receive an email reminder. back
If you need help making your appointment, or would like to schedule directly over the phone, please feel free to call. Here is the Contact Page. I will be happy to help you any way I can. back
You will receive an email reminder the day before your appointment. back
